About me

I am an Australian who loves the cold, snow and travel so like many others I moved to Berlin. I am also a User experience designer with a passion for research and learning. My background is in childcare and teaching, where I served as some may say a user experience designer of learning experiences in the classroom and beyond.
After nearly 10 years of working with children, I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and explore a career that I felt really drawn to and excited by. My background isn’t textbook for an aspiring designer, however, I know that my past careers and current drive to learn and succeed is what is needed to be a great designer.

Background

Summer Internship 2022 Jun - Sept
UX/UI Designer
Over the summer I joined the Berlin-based start-up Blindside GmbH working as a UX/UI Designer. Here, I collaborated closely with the Directing manager, tasked to bring their ideas and visions to life. With a fast turnaround on new features, over the three months, I successfully took on and completed three projects taking full ownership and responsibility for the full design process - Discovery to Delivery.

This fast-paced environment initially challenged my skills, however, I was able to improve and develop, where rapid wireframing and prototyping coupled with a fast and effective feedback loop became an essential part of the process.

In addition to producing and iterating on designs, this role gave me the opportunity along with a small team to recreate the company's design system. This without doubt accelerated my skills in Figma, manually converting components from Adobe XD to Figma with pixel-perfect accuracy.

2020 - 2021
Primary School Teacher
After graduating as a Teacher I went to help schools, teaching many students in classrooms all across Sydney.

I found the skills I developed and used the most were critical thinking and empathy. Upon meeting a new class of 30 students, I learned their names, created relationships and gained their trust in order to run the day smoothly. I worked to understand their needs, and pain points and think critically about how to structure and run the day to benefit the student's learning and well-being the best I could.

2019
Director - Out Of School Hours Care
As Centre Director of Lindfield Activity Centre, I was the manager of 30+ casual staff and the main point of contact for 350+ families who used the service.
This role came with much responsibility and really taught me how to think creatively to solve problems in the moment. What if our food delivery didn’t show up on time? What if our power or internet goes out? What if a child did not arrive at the centre after school? These were all daily scenarios where I had to use my leadership, creativity, and communication skills to steer the ship and prioritise the student's and the team's safety above all else.
